God pulled a Job on me!

I can just see it. God and Lucifer were having a conversation yesterday evening. Lucifer nudges the Father and says, "Hey! I'm gonna mess with your new 'Pastor'." God, knowing His child so well, rolls His eyes and responds with, "Alright. Go ahead. But you can't kill him."

Last night as Brenda and I were sitting watching TV we heard a big crack and rumble coming out of the front yard. It actually sounded as if someone was throwing something into our yard. We rushed out to see a branch on the Black Walnut tree in our yard -- at least 25 feet in length -- dangling about 7 feet from the ground. Of course, you understand it was Lucifer that caused the otherwise healthy branch to fall.

Now comes the part where the Father rolled His eyes, because He knows me so very well. Because I, in all my manness, saw the end of the branch dangling precariously above the ground just within reach. The thought came to my mind, "Hey there's a branch hanging there over my head! I should pull on it and see what happens!" So, even though because of the darkness I could not see up in the tree to assess the situation, I pulled on said branch. It didn't give. So I told Brenda to get up on the porch just in case it would work, changed my position and pulled HARDER (again, I'm sure God was rolling His eyes). At once I heard more cracking and felt the branch giving way -- THAT is when my God-given wisdom said, "What did I just do?" and I started running to get out of the way.

The branch ended up coming down on my shoulder and forearm, giving me only a few scrapes to remind me of my stupidity. But a larger, half-dead branch fell along with the big one and missed my head by less than a foot. I could have easily been seriously injured. The scary part for poor Brenda was that as I was running away from her toward the street she just saw the branch come down on me and I disappeared. There was a long pause as she held her breath, then she heard, "Well, that wasn't the smartest thing I've ever done." Then we both started to laugh.
